Spring Fertilizing your lawn

Grass roots are the first to start thriving when spring temperatures warm. New and deeper roots are formed, creating a network of interlocking roots. The deeper the roots, the more likely the grass plant will be able to survive hot, dry summer conditions.  Lawns can be fertilized in the spring. However, wait until the roots have stopped growing, around mid May.  Pre-emergence weed killers should be applied before the weed emerges. Since crabgrass germinates by mid-April, most chemical applications are applied by the first of April.

Nelson’s Services knows the proper way to fertilize your lawn and allow the root system to grow strong for a healthy landscape.  By applying weed killers early and fertilizing after, your grass will be able to have a strong root system without weeds competing with them.  This also allows less maintenance over the summer.
