Rock salt or ice melt on concrete pavers

brick patio, hardscapes

Can you use rock salt or ice melt on concrete pavers?

When you think about safety for the winter months, a lot of people will ask if they can use ice melt or salt on their concrete pavers.  The answer to that is yes.  Calcium chloride and rock salt are safe for most concrete pavers and can hold up to them better than poured concrete as pavers are more dense.  It also is a good idea to protect your pavers by sealing them with a high quality sealer.  Always remember, if you chose to go with salt products that you are careful not to burn your lawn.  If you are concerned with the health of your grass, it may still be a good idea to stick with good ol fashioned sand.
