Mid Summer Lawn Care Tips – Mequon Landscapers

When the temperature climbs into the 90’s, your lawn will need a little help in order for it to remain healthy.  The Mequon Landscapers at Nelson’s Landscaping and Snow Removal LLC have a few tips and reminders.

Lawn and Landscaping care

To-do list

Use the highest setting for your mower, usually that is at the recommended 3 inches.  This will allow the roots to grow deeper and hold more moisture, it also helps protect your lawn from burning in the summer heat.

Watering your lawn early in the day is recommended, you will tend to lose less water due to evaporation and less chance of fungal growth. Lawns typically need at least one inch of water per week and even more if the summer heat is more severe.  (neat trick) A small tuna can placed in your grass can be used as a water gauge.

Applying weed killers or fertilizer isn’t recommended but possible if needed.  It is more recommended to do this when the sun is less intense during the early spring or fall months.  Even if you successfully fertilize in mid summer, what can happen is that you will get fast top growth and your grass will not be able to store winter reserves.  In the long run, it is better to wait till at least Sept.
