Landscaping and Lawn Care In the Spring | Milwaukee Landscaping

Spring is a great time to check soil health. If your lawn is hard, aerating it will help. The holes created by the aerator allow air and water to reach roots and fertilizers to settle in.

Fertilize.
Fertilizing lawns helps build dense turf that crowds out most weeds. Fertilize lawns early in the spring and later in the fall.  Remember too much fertilizer does not make your grass grow faster. Read the instructions.

Watering

Give your grass a good soak about once a week.   Apply water slowly, so it soaks in.  This will help roots to grow deeper into the soil and make them more drought-tolerant. Allow grass and soil to dry between watering and try not to water in the evening to keep fungus away.

Weed control.

The best way to control weeds is to have healthy lawn with thick leaves.  The grass will choke out any weeds before they can grow.
Mowing.
Allow grass to grow 3 or 4 inches before mowing depending on the type of grass. Leave grass clippings on the lawn where they can decompose back into the soil.
